Z zaključenim študijem prevajanja in tolmačenja lahko postanete prevajalec, projektni vodja, konferenčni tolmač, svobodni prevajalec, literarni prevajalec, editor, strokovni prevajalec, naprimer pravni prevajalec za pravno prevajanje.
Prevajalci morajo obvladati materin jezik, imeti morajo odlično znanje iz enega ali dveh tujih jezikov, dobro morajo razumeti vsebine, slog in nianse izvornega besedila, biti morajo natančni. Od prevajalcev pričakujemo upoštevanje rokov za dokončanje prevoda, ne da bi pri tem trpela kakovost prevoda. Sposobni morajo biti uporabljati različne vire, da sodelujejo pri skupinskem delu, biti morajo tehnično usposobljeni in spremljati razvoj računalniško podprtega in strojnega prevajanja.
